The Rotary Club of Madison has an enthusiastic and engaged network of ordinary people doing extraordinary things to serve humanity in our local and global communities. We have 88 members and are inviting like-minded individuals to join our successful and vibrant club. Do you have a story or a piece of news that can be shared with our Club? If you are a committee chair, the leader of a project, a club member, write a short paragraph describing your event, activity, accomplishment or upcoming event, send it to newsletter editor Barrykroll@aol.com. We want club members to be aware of individual and club accomplishments, upcoming events, when volunteers are needed, information about Rotary, etc. If you have a picture it always adds to the readability of the story.
The District Banner Exchange (DG John Wislon passes the governorship to DGE Ray Freaney) This event will be held at Mayfair Farms, 481 Eagle Rock Avenue on Monday, May 24, 2019 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm . The cost is $67.00 perperson and includes an open bar, heavy hors d'oeuvres with carving stations and a short program. The Madison Club Installation dinner (President Michel Belt passes the presidency to Liz Parker) This event will be a backyard BBQ held at the home of Barry and Judy Kroll, Friday, May 28, 2019 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. The cost is $40.00 per person and is being subsidized by the club. Includes food, beverages fun and fellowship in a relaxed casual environment. Sign up sheets for both events are begin passed around at club meetings. It will be billed to your club account.
“Club Service” involves focusing on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the smooth functioning of Rotary clubs. Learn about effective club service in Membership and Training.
“Vocational Service” involves club members serving others through their professions and aspiring to high ethical standards. Rotarians, as business leaders, share skills and expertise through their vocations, and they inspire others in the process.
“Community Service” is the opportunity Rotary clubs have to implement club projects and activities that improve life in the local community.
“International Service” encompasses efforts to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the world and to promote world understanding and peace. It includes everything from contributing to PolioPlus to helping Rotary Youth Exchange students adjust to their host countries.
“Youth Committee” is the Avenue that recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults involved in leadership development activities, community and international service projects, and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding.
22 applications for Madison Rotary's "Service Above Self" scholarship award were received this year. The top eight students were interviewed by the Scholarship Committee and five students, Emily Axelsen, Sara Massey, Heather McCulloch, Julia Sales and Amanda Smith were selected to receive $1,000 scholarship awards. The students will be recognized at Madison High School awards ceremony to be held on June 20th. All of the students attend Madison High School with the exception of Emily Axelsen who attends Gill St. Bernards.
Rotary Leadership Institute was held Saturday, April 20, 2019 at West Orange High School in West Orange. The purpose of the Rotary Leadership Institute is to strengthen your club and strengthen your life. Rotary provides an opportunity for all of us to provide service to our community and throughout the world. (Service Above Self) With that service comes a learning experience in the areas of leadership, team building, planning, marketing, communication and organization. RLI provides an opportunity to enrich that learning through sharing experiences and ideas with other Rotarians throughout the region.
