          New Year's Resolution
As the New Year begins, we often think about New Year Resolutions. New beginnings, fresh starts, reaffirmation of love and promises for a brighter future all come to mind as we ring in a New Year. There are the superficial, yet purposeful promises we make to ourselves. We resolve to get in shape, lose weight, improve career paths and the like. Then there are the heartfelt promises we make to others, whether aloud or in our minds.

The New Year is a time to reflect on the changes we want or need to make. We thought that we would look back at the Rotary New Year’s Resolutions from last year. How many where you able to accomplish, how many are still on the list for 2019?

Here is a list of the top Rotary New Year’s resolutions. These are easy resolutions that will strengthen our Rotary Club:

New Year Resolutions for Rotary:
  • Attend weekly meetings – Great speakers, fellowship and networking all happen at our weekly meetings. Try to attend one additional meeting per month!
  • Do a make-up – Can’t attend our meeting why not visit another Rotary Club. There are Rotary meetings worldwide.
  • Invite a new member – bring a guest to Rotary and invite them to be a member. Who do you think would make a great Rotarian?
  • Celebrate Rotary. Get social, share some of our Facebook posts and Tweets. Share some of the great projects, posts, picture and events of our Rotary Club on any of your social media platforms
  • Wear your Rotary pin – Be proud. It is also a great tool to start a conversation about the good work that Rotary does and membership
  • Get involved in a hands on Rotary project – Volunteering is vital to Rotary. It can be a family event too. Dictionary Project, Bottle Hill Day,  End Hunger, Shred It, May Day, Parades, Scholarship Committee just to name a few.
  • Become a Rotarian not just a member – Find your Rotary moment. What do you like best about Rotary, what talent can you share with Rotary to make a difference in the world?
  • Make Rotary one of your Charities of Choice – Our Rotary Club does so much good in our local & international communities. Contribute to The Rotary Foundation

Enjoy Rotary – Have some fun meeting a new Rotarian, work side by side with another Rotarian. Know that by working together we make a huge impact. Be proud to be a Rotarian in the Rotary Club of Madison!

It seems that these New Year resolutions are goals that can and should be looked at in 2019. It is going to be an exciting year in 2019….Rotary will continue to change and adapt, meet the needs of children locally and internationally and we will enjoy the fellowship of Rotarians.

Special this year is we will be the home club of the District Governor as Ray Freaney assumes the position July 1, 2019.

Happy New Year!

250,000 Meals To Be Packaged
Slide Show of Last Year's Program
Rotary District 7475, Madison Rotary Foundation and numerous other Rotary Clubs have a goal of packaging 250,000 meals on Saturday, March 9, 2019 form 9 am to 4 pm.    Hunger is a very real problem for many people in our community and we are dedicated to making a difference by distributing all of the meals locally.  130,000 meals were packaged in 2017, 160,000 were packaged in 2018 and we are excited about achieving the goal of 250,000 in 2019.  Ellsworth Havens, program chair, said "we are grateful to have such a supportive community and sponsors to make a program like this happen".  We are in the process of securing donations from individuals, sponsors and corporations for this year's program.  The cost per meal is approximately 25 cents.  A contribution of $10.00 equals 40 meals; $100.00 equals 400 meals, $1,000 equals 4,000 meals.  It will take 800 onsite volunteer on March 9th to make this happen.  Volunteer registration start January 15, 2019.  Click the DONATE or VOLUNTEER button on the left to Donate or Volunteer.

Madison Rotary Membership Drive Underway
Madison Rotary kicked off its annual membership drive on November 1st at its Club Assembly meeting.  The goal is to increase  the number of members from 84 to 100.  The more Rotarians in the Club the more things we can accomplish is serving the community locally and globally.  The strategy is to ask each member to identify/select one or two individuals as member prospects and invite them to participate and join in Club activities.  Members can select individual(s) from the Club prospect list or identify a new prospect.  Support materials will be distributed on a regular basis to support your efforts.  Below is a video with the 5 most commons reasons people say "NO" to becoming involved.  The information may help you overcome their concerns.  The following members need to identify/select a prospect to cultivate.  Adamczyk, Boles, Budd, Cesaro, Cooney, Coviello, Dalena, DeGennaro, Derossa, Dunn, Fastiggi, Foster, Freaney, Greene, Haralampoudis, Harootunian, Havens, Hoover, Horn, Iossa, Kerkeslager, Kopenski, Launchi, Mann, Marchese, McConnell, Meek, Minardi, Morozoff, Odell, M, Odell, W, Pancirov, Powell, Rabasca, Richter, Rosania, Rowe, Selen, Umana, Zimmerman

101 Rotary Facts to Know # 9
Tolerance of Differences
Tolerance is one of the most important virtues in the Rotary spirit. As early as 1911 our founder Paul Harris in his essay “Rational Rotarianism” said, “If by interposition of Providence I someday were to find myself standing on a platform in some great Coliseum looking into the eyes of every living Rotarian, and were to be told that I could have one word to say, without an instant’s hesitation and at the top of my voice, I would shout ‘Toleration!’”
